How Long Does It Take to Get My Free Credit Report?

Q. How long should someone wait for a credit report? I mailed AnnualCreditReport.com requests for a single credit agency report for my daughter and myself, but neither of us have received a response. I do not want to send an additional request and be billed for multiple reports.

pull my credit report

A close friend recently asked me for advice about reviewing her credit reports and credit scores. A few years ago, when she got a mortgage, her scores were very good — in the 800s — but she has since had a run-in with a department store card that she fears may have had a negative impact on her credit. So it’s smart for her to find out what’s going on.

He checked his credit reports, noticed an inaccuracy, and he disputed it. And then he applied for a loan.

And now that dispute is keeping him from getting his loan approved, or at least delaying it.

What Your Credit Reports Won’t Tell You

What Your Credit Reports Won't Tell You

A credit report is a pretty simple concept: It’s a report on your past use of credit and loans. That part is generally pretty easy for people to grasp. It’s some of the other stuff on the report — and the stuff that’s not on the report — that confuses some and leads to misunderstanding the credit report’s purpose.

A Super Simple Way to Figure Out If You Have Good Credit

By Steven Shaw on 4/22/2014

A Super Simple Way to Figure Out If You Have Good Credit

Your credit report is basically a record of why someone would or would not want to lend you money. If you have good credit, that means you have done a lot of things to make a lender think, “Wow, if I give money to this guy, he’ll definitely pay me back when he’s supposed to.” On the other hand, if you have bad credit, that means your credit history (or lack thereof) makes a lender think, “Huh, I’m not so sure about this guy. It could be pretty risky to let him borrow my money.”
